CarbonSync started with a simple observation: when CSRD arrived, most finance teams were completely unprepared. We built the tool we wished existed.
Erik Lindström and Mats Karlsson spent years watching companies approach sustainability reporting the same way: a consultant every 12 months, a spreadsheet that nobody trusted, and a disclosure that satisfied nobody — not the board, not regulators, not the auditors.
When the CSRD came into force, the margin for that approach disappeared. Companies needed a continuous, structured process — not an annual scramble. So in 2021, Erik and Mats left their respective roles in financial software and engineering and started building.
18 months of internal testing before the first client went live. Not because we were slow, but because carbon data is consequential. A wrong number in a CSRD disclosure isn't a minor error. It's a liability. We weren't going to ship until we were confident the methodology was airtight.
Today, CarbonSync serves over 500 companies across 30 countries. The team has grown to 18 people, all based in Stockholm. We work closely with regulators, standards bodies, and audit firms — because the rules are still being written and we'd rather help write them than react to them.
"Most companies don't have a carbon problem. They have a carbon data problem. Fix the data, and the compliance follows."

Every emission factor, calculation method, and data source in CarbonSync is traceable to a peer-reviewed or regulatory standard. We don't estimate when we can measure, and we don't simplify when accuracy matters.
Our methodology documentation is public. Clients can see exactly how every number was produced. If an auditor wants to trace a figure to its source, they can do it in minutes — not days.
We follow CSRD, GRI, TCFD, and CDP closely — not as a marketing claim, but because that's what our clients' auditors and regulators require. When standards update, the platform updates.
